About Lewes Footpaths Group

The Group aims to promote and share the enjoyment of walking and to participate in keeping rights of way accessible.  We do this by:

  • providing a weekly programme of guided walks within striking distance of Lewes
  • responding to complaints or queries about footpaths
  • providing social evenings three times per year with talks related to the countryside and other areas of interest
  • running holidays for members at home and abroad in beautiful countryside
  • running coach outings to both enable us to walk further afield and to visit places of interest and beauty

Lewes Footpaths Group was formed in 1964. Click here to read a potted history of the Group. Also our early records have been lodged at the East Sussex Records Office. They can be found under the reference number ACC 8738.

The activities of the group have considerably widened since those early days to include a through year programme of walks.

The group has a large membership and is a very sociable and active group to be involved with.

The annual report from the committee of our activities gives a good feel for the group.

Programmes are available from the Lewes Tourist Information Centre.

For more information please send an email to the Membership Secretary using the email link on the Joining page.
