Southease-Rodmell

31 January 2026

Despite all the recent heavy rain, Saturday 31st January turned out to be an exceptionally good morning.  Eleven Footpaths members and two members from Plumpton Walking Group set off from the Southease Youth Hostel for a 4 mile walk around Rodmell.  A request was made at Southease Church to see if the snowdrops were out.  Yes, they were out and looked really beautiful.  We walked further up the hill and around the field to Rodmell, which was really muddy and slippery, so we took our time, and all went well.

On reaching Rodmell, we went down through the village and what a magnificent sight met us at the bottom! There were snowdrops galore, so beautiful.  We then continued on down the lane towards the river bank.  There was so much flooding in the fields after all the heavy rain we have had recently.  On reaching the river bank, we ploughed through slippery mud which tested everyones ability to stay upright!  Luckily we all survived and made it back to the Hostel, where we were able to sit outside in the sun with our refreshing tea or coffee.  The walk was led by Jean.
