10 members left Firle road, Seaford, on a sunny but breezy morning and walked the short distance to Blatchington golf course. After ringing the bell, we crossed the fairway and followed the path that runs between several of them. We then walked along a very narrow track, with planted fields beyond the bushes to our left and more trees and bushes to our right, and birds singing, until we reached Paul Earl’s seat. After a quick water break we continued inland up a wide and partly grassy track leading to Bo-Peep car park, where it was now much warmer and less windy.  Along the way we saw many glorious wild flowers and had lovely views. There were quite a few people about as it was such a lovely day, including many cyclists. On reaching Bo-Peep we had our coffee break sitting on the 4 benches that overlook land to the north with magnificent views of the area around Arlington reservoir, and overhead there was a whitethroat singing loudly. Less pleasant were a few audible gunshots and we hoped that it was nothing sinister! Resuming our walk, we followed the South Downs Way east for a short while before turning south to walk on the partly grassy path towards Rathfinny vineyards, more lovely views including the sea and now we were hearing and seeing skylarks. Reaching the vineyards, we took the chalky path back up to Paul Earl’s seat, along the narrow track and took the private road that borders the golf course, now we were hearing blackbirds, to Firle road. A walk of just over 6 miles was led by Hazel.
